So you don't miss your Sunday brunch or Sunday dinner with the family, we've changed the time on our roda de choro (choro circle) to Sundays from 4-6 PM.

We're centrally located in the charming shopping district between Woodlawn and Ashby on Main Ave.  Contact me for precise directions and to RSVP. Bring your instrument, we'll do the rest...

There will be NO roda on Sunday, Feb 1, 2015, Super Bowl Sunday. But we'll resume on Feb 8, 4 PM. Looking forward to seeing you!

SA Choro's History

SA CHORO was born on Sunday June 1, 2014. We had a fine time by the pool with friends and neighbors, and have been meeting regularly on Sundays ever since...

Our first public performance was at the 40th anniversary celebration of San Antonio's Urban 15, on July 19, 2014.

Our members include professional and amateur musicians, teachers, and students, among others.

What is SA Choro?

CHORO is a musical idiom that emerged in Rio de Janeiro around the same time as jazz was being born in New Orleans (late 1800s), and they share some common ancestors in Africa, Europe, and the Americas...

Join us as we delve collaboratively into this beautiful repertoire. There's something for just about everyone. A diverse array of instruments are welcomed, including flute, clarinet, sax, violin, cello, accordion, bass, mandolin, cavaquinho (like a ukelele), guitar (especially 7-string), pandeiro (tambourine), and other percussion. Whether you're a reader or an ear player, we'll find a way for you to get involved. There's also wonderful couples dancing...

 

Maybe you'd just like to listen? Bring a little something to eat or drink, pull up a chair, and enjoy. This is an ongoing event, so you're free to come listen the first time, maybe play the second...
